Happy Holidays to you too Rob,
Like I mentioned before, if you have the configuration documented, you
could automate a "from-base" install of VIOS. I always keep a file with how
my customer's VIOS are installed so I can rebuild them easily. I also use a
script developed by a coworker to obtain the current config so I can
rebuild those VIOS if needed. A VIOS upgrade might be the time to evaluate
if the machine is using the current best practices (vNIC vs SEA, for
example) or if you can do away completely by using SRIOV adapters...
Best Regards!

Apparently it is recommended that you get to 2.6.6.65 before upgrading
using the iosupgrade technique to go to 3.x. However there is a little
compatibility issue with the file created by viosbr with 2.6.6.61 and
beyond and upgrading from those to 3.1.0 directly can be an issue. One
desired technique is to go to 3.1.0.x directly by 'creating a custom
mksysb'. Which to me sounds like vios speak for creating your own ibm i
resave by also including all the latest PTF's. Something the Larry's and
Pete's of the world often do. Since I have 6 upgrades to do it may have
some merit.
But I'm done in an hour until January 4 so I got some time to let this
simmer.

So if you don't hear a lot from me until then, happy holy days.

IBM is suggesting that I go to 3.1.1.25 and not to 3.2.anything.
Especially since I have EMC Data Domain equipment.
