Yes, I knew that.... but never consider going to that mode before creating the report.

I will have to give it a try.

Thank you for the input.

Rather than using the expressions in the prompted mode query in QMQRY, consider just using the SQL mode directly.

Unlike Query/400, QMQRY uses SQL.

In STRQM, use 10=Convert to SQL to convert a prompted query to an SQL mode.

Also, F19=Change query creation mode, you can change your default to SQL mode.

Vern,

Based on your suggestion; CPART will get me close enough for what I
need in this report.

Define Expressions

Type expression using field names, constants, and operators, press
Enter.
For full name and expression, press F4.

Valid operators are: +, -, *, /, CONCAT ...

Name Expression

APART SUBSTRING( DIGITS(PART),1,7)

BPART SUBSTRING( DIGITS(PART),8,2)

CPART APART CONCAT '-' CONCAT BPART

Hi Michael

I've done a fair amount playing/working with QM. I see where you get
only the codes.

Part of the trouble is, your part numbers are not really numbers used
in calculations. Edit words could get you what you want, of course.

I think what you do is use one of the SQL functions - digits() with
various subtringing can do it - i looked at varchar_format but did not
see how it could do it.

Using F4 on the edit column only allows me to use/select an edit code.

Is there another screen, function key, or work around for editing
the
part number?

I would like to use an edit word that produced a column of part
numbers
formatted: "123456-78".

Edit Column Formatting

Type information, press Enter.
For Usage and Edit, press F4 for list.
For Heading, press F4 for prompt.
