The fans will always be running. The only difference is how fast. You can
configure power saving settings from the ASMI, but AFAIK the 914's come
with "make as little noise as possible" set as the default. Maybe the NVMe
adapters require more cooling?

We have a new 9009-41G (tower) that we just powered on the other day. The
fans have been running non-stop since the server was powered on. The server
has 2 1.6tb NVMe storage cards. I'm wondering if anyone on the list is
experiencing the same thing.

I opened a case with IBM and their response was " A problem was fixed for
certain PCIe adapters and NVMe U.2 devices. The following feature codes are
affected and the presence of these features in the 9009-22G, 9009-41G,
9009-42G, and 5105-22E servers can result in higher fan speeds and
therefore higher acoustic levels after upgrading the firmware". I'm just
trying to determine if the fans are supposed to be running continuously.

Thanks in advance for any hindsight that can be provided.
