Rob,
I can offer a tool that generates basic database management applications,
which are written in ILE RPG. The default is to place a link to the
application on a menu in an IBM i web portal that requires
user authentication. But there is also an option to assign a URL that
launches an instance of the application and directs a browser to it. So you
could embed the link in an email that redirects to the application.
I understand that this may not be what you have in mind, since you
specifically mentioned UPDDTA and implied that you're interested in a
generic file maintenance utility. I think the main difference is that these
generated applications may have data validation/referential integrity
logic, and can be flexibly extended to support parent/child relationships
such as purchase order headers and details, and enhanced in a lot of ways
that appeal to users and support the development of broadly-scoped business
applications.
Contact me privately if you're interested in seeing a demo.
Nathan.

The webby IBM Navigator for i has ways to display data but the only way to--

I am looking for something I can put a link in an email which the user can
click on and edit a simple table, like UPDDTA does in 5250.
I can embed links like
file:\\myibmi\myshare\myDirectory\myfile.csv
I'm looking for something like
http:\\myibmi\something?myschema.mytable
I know that those of you who do not secure your data are probably having a
heart attack at the thought of such a thing even though there are a
bazillion tools they can download already and get to that same table (and
probably many others).
So, if there isn't some such thing how hard is it to generate a program
that may be limited to a webby version of upddta of just a particular
table? Something I can imbed as a link into an email?
