I am very glad that you are learning and progressing. However, if you
had led with a mention of XML, that would have garnered at least a few
responses along the lines of "there are better ways than sed".

Not a bad way to go. You can go one better by making little stream
files that *are* scripts.

Ah, and so we finally get to the *real* use case, which isn't even XML
but rather Excel files.
I am quite confident you don't want to alter your path now. You've
come so far on your current one. But this really would have been a
great opportunity to dip your toes into Python from the start.
