There's no "interactive" form of sed. The pitfall is to correctly escape the escapes: Multi-Backslashes. This is highly PITA as you found out yourself. Maybe now you know why I resolved to use a script file, back in the days. I guess that's what you mean with "non-interactive".

So, the next Exciting Challenge is to find out if I can go back or forward
a number of records from some distinctive string before inserting.

New ground even for me. :-)
