again,the files have the exact same attributes, permissions, but simply
vary in size... fileB is larger than fileC...

Robert,
I should at least send an isolated request from the command line as you
suggest for fileC. Have not done that.
I believe sndsmtpemm allows up to 10 file attachments. All I am ever
attaching in each of my files is 2 (the filex and another small pdf)
Let me try the command line submission and report back.

If you look at them via wrklnk in the directory they all have
char long filenames with a .zip ext (all lowercase). The attributesfrom

fileA = 2.5MB

fileC = 6.8MB
All files get delivered to the recipient correctly except fileC.
