Rule number 1: A joblog is NOT a spool file. The spool file QPJOBLOG is only a spool file representation of the joblog. If a job is active you can do a DSPJOBLOG on that job. If a job is completed, but still shows up on WRKJOB, and you changed system value QLOGOUTPUT to *PND, you can still do DSPJOBLOG on that. Analyzing a joblog by joblog_info is much easier than looking at a spool file which may have the string you're looking for spanning lines.
