The Knowledge Center for the DSPJRN command specifically lists this situation as a possibility. Perhaps they only allow for so much data? Keep in mind that the blank files IBM uses to copy and create the new files in OUTPUT(*OUTFILE) may not have newer functions such as variable length columns and whatnot. So if you are trying to get before/after snapshots of data then I can easily see those columns getting truncated if the file being journaled already has a long row length.
Another reason I recommend using the IBM service instead.
