I believe you can do it if you want to; we set it up to do that for similar
reasons, but take into account the de-dup comments made in other responses.

Per the document below: "In releases IBM i 7.2 and later, the media class
contains the Initialize media on expiration field which can be used to
indicate whether to initialize media when it expires"
