On the host, does everything look healthy in SST, option 8. Work with device parity protection?
Any entries in PAL or LIC log on host or guest?

No SAN.
The hosting lpar of IBM i has five 59DD 1.4TB 10k spinning drives in ASP 2.
There are seven NWSDs configured for this guest. One is for tape and optical only.
5 of the nwsd's have ten 70GB storage spaces. 1 of the nwsd's has nine 70GB storage spaces.
All of the storage spaces for this guested lpar are in ASP 2.

Does it confuse a system to have more NWSD's than there are physical drives in that ASP?

Are you using direct attached disks or SAN based storage?

In SAN, a path failure could cause slowness As IO wait will increase when it hit that path.
