Because since 20 years, "next year will be the breakthrough for Linux on the desktop". :-)

From my own experience, it's a great server system. Devs invest a lot of time/work into the desktop stuff. But there are still rough edges, as I've learned.
Sysadmins would love to use some linux based desktop solution, be it only for saving license costs to throw at Microsoft, or to be less concerned about malware. But remote performance is still poor, especially over low-bandwidth, high-latency links. There has been some (commercial) effort to replicate Citrix-Behavior for Linux but I can't recall if there was *the* solution.
