If I understand what you're after correctly, then I just wrote a little
utility along those lines last week. Basically, using SQL, I:

1. Create a new table LIKE the table being journaled
2. Select the first column/field name of the table being journal/displayed
(SYSCOLUMNS and ordinal_position = 1)
3. Alter the table made in step 1 using the alter table add column x
before y support (with y being the value found in step 2) to add the
various columns DSPJRN generates
4. Run DSPJRN and show the results

All can be done with CL (though I did use a RPG program for Step 2 as CL
doesn't exactly handle Selects real well).

There are many ways to do this, the above being the approach I took for
expediency.
