The problem with the Oracle product appeared also with earlier releases.
There is an alternative that works on 7.3 and 7.4 . It is not pricey – thousands instead of tens of thousands.
It is called DB-Gate. See https://www.razlee.com/db-gate/
It does more than Oracle’s product. It can connect to Oracle, MS-SQL, MySQL, POSTGRE, H2, Derby, and others, including Excel.
As with the Oracle product, DB-Gate uses standard SQL embedded in the regular way in RPG and COBOL. Both can even work with interactive STRSQL.
DB-Gate works for large institutions in their Real-Time applications.
Some DB-Gate customers replaced the Oracle product with it.
