Doesn't the travel ban apply to the tapes being transported in person?

I would think disks are no harder to transport in person than the tapes.

Sounds good and I'll recommend it.

Of course taking the drives on the plane would be easier but I'm managing a
potential travel ban because of Covid 19.

And we can't ship the backup tapes because they're not encrypted. And it
would take too long to set that up given the tight timeframe we're working
to.

FIrst I would recommend TWO tapes not just one. All the eggs in one
basket and such.

Second you would simply want to IPL from an IBM i install DVD. From that
install the Licended Internal Code. That will format the load source drive.

Once installed, in service tools you will need to END RAID. Once that
completes then use work with disk units and under problem recovery
procedures initialize and format all the remaining drives.

Note that you will require 'several hours' to perform all these steps.
Of course you'll need to 'un-do' these steps on the other end when
reloading.

Here is a 'dumb question'. Why do you not simply remove the drives,
pack them in a proper case, and carry them? STILL do the backups OF
COURSE but MAN you will save a lot of time and grief!!!

We want to move a Power Server from one location to another. The data on
server is Raid 6 is not encrypted. Our users have asked that the drives
be
completely erased to protect the data being lost before shipping and then
restored at the other side using a tape that had been securely
transported
in person.

I have no idea how to do that since the drives are 15K SAS drives and I
don't know how you could erase them via IBMi since you just can't erase
that part of the Raid that contains the data can you? And if you remove
them all to be erased you will have to find a PC that can access a SAS
drive.

Unless I've missed something here.
