One of the main reasons I do not like using KEYFILE(...) is that most existing 'traditional' logical files have select/omit criteria. For example only selecting 'active' records. You cannot use a logical file with select/omit specified as the parameter in KEYFILE. To me it inherently makes sense to sort the inactive and active apart from each other.
I fully get that one can never count on the order a row is retrieved except by specifying selection and/or order by criteria. I am concerned however with performance and it does help performance to have the rows physically sorted.
