Patrik:

I've been doing performance and Work Management on what's now called the POWER line and IBM i since the early S/38 days. I teach advanced work management and performance tuning at user groups and have done so at COMMON Annual Meetings (what they were called at that time) and PowerUPxx meetings. One of my associates still teaches it, therefore I know these things. All of that is off topic.

My question is, and remains, has IBM published a new document on the expert cache and how it should be used?

The original question relates to the *SPOOL shared pool and why someone on the IBM support center would counter many years of advice. As Dawn suggests, until I see a new document on expert cache, I'm not ready to make changes. I will stipulate that the last document I've seen on it is several hardware generations back, and there may have been changes that warrant some rethinking, but to the best of my knowledge, there is not a new version of that document out.

As to the machine pool, it’s always been off.

AFAIK it's simply not possible to set *MACHINE to *CALC. It's size is set in QMCHPOOL and will be adjusted automatically by pfradjust (if enabled).
