As you pointed out in an earlier post you will need "same" (thinking you
meant SAN there) switches. Easy enough but even used, they can get
pricey.....

With i Hosting i you can virtualize TAPE DRIVES both SAS and Fiber.

With VIOS Hosting you can virtualize TAPE LIBRARIES if they are FIBER.

This is a KEY question we discuss with customers when designing a
system. i Hosting i is a great solution BUT it does have limitations.
One of those is tape virtualization.

To make the VTL visible AS A LIBRARY by multiple LPARS you have two choices.

a) Install multiple SAS or FIBER cards and allocate one to each
partition.

b) Install VIOS and a single FIBER card and connect the VTL to an
NPIV
Capable fiber switch and the VTL will be available to each partition.
