That's the reason to go with VTL.

We run a multi-building FC fabric for most systems connecting to a bunch of VTLs and physical libraries. IPL from VTL and Restore21 runs like a charm and we can replicate if needed by the customer. Additional to transactional replication. Using FC and NPIV this can be automated and easily operated, even for migrating to other locations using save21/restore21. Operating team also has some FC tape drives connected so they can grab a tape a customer brings in and restore to a box at a remote location or duplicate to a VTL. Cannot imagine live without VTL any longer.
And - if you can live with some little restrictions compared to the big ones, you get this for free but still with support...
