The 2 new fields in the print file are NOT in any other print file in any other library
So the compile of the program HAS to pick up my version, which also contains the changes in the font - that are not happening

Please do a wrkobj on the name of the print file. I suspect you have accidentally compiled the new version into the wrong library in *LIBL while the "old" one (without the font change) is still there and thus used first.

Did I understand right that the font flag has been in use in the same PRTF earlier (before your changes) on other elements and works there? Unfortunately I'm not fluent in i-Printing so far, so I can't tell if your change isn't applied through a restriction in AFPDS itself.
