As a stop gap measure, we are using Google's custom search engine service.
If you know of an easy to use, open source, search engine ... please contact support@midrange.com.
Check out PDFBox (
https://pdfbox.apache.org/). It might do what you need. We use it for creating and merging PDF files, but it looks like it can also read from them.
