They don't have to learn "ILE". Run it through the IBM converter and it will still be "RPG" to them. Just wider columns and the opportunity to use some new stuff gradually.

I've had a number of old RPG-III that I needed to add things to where it was just easier to convert it and add my stuff (in free-form most of the time).

I know ILE and SQL and could do it that way, that's the frustrating part, but, it has to be maintainable by existing staff.

        You do not need to convert the program to ILE.  pre-ILE programs can access SQL VIEWs just like regular old LFs.
