Subject: Pgm msg delayed

I have a long-running 5250 process, and I'm trying to show an informational message at the bottom of the screen to inform the user. I've done this before using the SNDPGMMSG CL command. For some reason this time, the message doesn't appear until after the program completes. I've also tried using the QMHSNDPM API within the specific RPG program, but it does the same thing.

Am I just mistaken about how SNDPGMMSG works, or is there some trick I've forgotten?

TIA
