good metric either.
A problem should be worked on until it is resolved. If it takes an
hour, a day, or a week.
Considering a fast turn around a good thing just encourages sloppy
work and half baked solutions.
I once observed a project that promised the development team a bonus
if they completed the project by a certain date.
Management was very pleased when the project was completed on time.
The team that had to pick up the next phase, and maintenance, of the
project wasn't so pleased when the saw that the project wasn't even
close to finished and chock full of bugs.
All that said ... if a problem is taking an excessive amount of time
to resolve, status updates are necessary to ensure the person working
on it isn't going down the wrong path.
