Our network admin was a big fan of putting hardware in the DMZ.
However now he's gotten to be a real PITA forcing us to justify each server port in between a DMZ machine and an internal machine.
Makes me more inclined to just use our Edge server in the DMZ to route to a machine in our internal network. For example, one goes to mycomp.com and let's say that's 208.x.x.x. This address hits our Edge server in our DMZ which then sends it to an internal machine at 10.x.x.x. We can even set up multiple priorities based on availability. For example 10.10.x.x if that site is up or 10.15.x.x if it is not. And the Edge server can test for a http string at either server to really verify that it is up and running and serving that web site.
