If they truly did this, then we wouldn't be seeing any differences in CHGSMTPA, etc.

The telnet idea was a good idea for a test.

The list strips images. Pasting images to imgur.com and pasting the link from that works quite well. OTOH, if they are 5250 images copying and pasting the text instead of a screen shot is a fine option.
