You could try my MAILTOOL Plus software. It totally bypasses the IBM SMTP
systems and MSF. www.bvstools.com/mailtool.html.

About $600 a year for a partition ($300 for the base MAILTOOL and $300 for
MAILTOOL Plus, which is built in and simply requires separate licensing).

And from what I hear, the support is pretty good too. :)

The only issue you may have is if you require SSL connections and the
server is using a newer Cipher than is available on V7R1. But I haven't
found that yet with the big boys (MS and Google).

We recently migrated from a Power 6 server to Power 8 running IBMi 7.1 by
just dumping the entire system onto tape from the Power 6 and restoring to
the Power 8. I think that is what the support guy said they did.

Anyway the applications runs fine but we having problems with sending
email. The admin guy starts the job (?) that processes email and it dies
pretty soon after with no error messages.

Looking at the SMTP configuration it looks like it was on the Power 6 with
the SMTP server name and port 25 so we just duplicated the setting. The
admin guy can send email fine by setting up a telnet session to the mail
server (which is just a relay) and issuing commands so it's okay.

This is a screen I captured showing the SMTP jobs that failed.

From what I have been told it's the job QTSMTPSRVD in the screen shot
that
is failing.

Hard to get IBM support for this since 7.1 is out of support and we might
have to purchase extended support (which I don't mind) but I am reaching
out to the list in case somebody has an idea we could try in the interim,

Thanks
