Forgive my cluelessness, but I don't understand what you are trying to
accomplish.

I have production code that failed after compiling the program with
COMMIT(*CHG). The code does a bunch of stuff, but the failing part was
doing a "create table qtemp/xxx as ( select * from bbb ) with data ".
After the recompile, the code failed. Looking for the easiest way to get
the code running again.

I think I see. It seems like you realized you *could* achieve the
functionality that you needed to with INSERT, but that would require a
bit of rewriting, and you were looking for the "least invasive" code
surgery.
