The Java does not need to be installed on the desktop. ACS will run from
the server with the JVM in the application directory. This way:
The JVM can be IBM's so you are not held hostage to the Oracle.
The JVM is always the same one for every user.
The JVM and it's controls are not ON the local PC to be 'misconfigured'
but the user.
Updates to the JVM can be laid in at the same time as ACS is updated.
One update al users.
The JVM isn't available to the user to accidentally run JAVA bits on the
desktop.
So is ACS really out?
Their used to be a vendor who constantly posted on this list that their
emulator was 'so much better' but they didn't do all the bits that CA
did. I seem to recall they may have had a file transfer utility.
Finally what about running the ACS on IBM i itself to create the
downloads there? Yes this is an option!! ACS is Java and can be be run
directly on i to execute these file transfers with the output being
placed on an IFS Directory shared to the user or to a file server for
the user to access.

My client is looking to replace the unsupported Client Access for Windows but they have a company policy of no Java on the desktop, so ACS is out. Mocha TN5250 is a top choice for emulation but they also need ability to run SQL and download to desktop in XLS/CVS formats.
Are there any 3rd party products which include both 5250 and file transfer capabilities that do not require Java?
Any recommendations for an SQL client that does not require Java? The one’s I’m familiar with are all Java based (Squirrel, DBeaver).
