I am the original poster of the Stackoverflow question.
Forgive me if I make a newbie mistake. I am new to this mail list.

Thanks to this mailing list and partial answers on SO, I think I have
resolved the problem. I am posting here hoping it helps others.

Apparently Fedora 30 ships with headless JRE. by running "sudo dnf install
'java-1.8.0-openjdk'" the full version of Java was installed and my problem
was resolved.
All seems to work even under the default Gnome desktop running under
Wayland.

Thanks to everyone.
I work with DB2 on i Series and plan to continue to monitor this list, and
contribute back if I am able.

Cheers,
Roger

Fedora is running wayland and not X11. Java doesn't play nice with wayland
as of yet. As far as I know there are no plans yet to fix that. This is a
good place to start

Subject: Trouble getting ACS to work on Fedora

Just passing along this Stack Overflow question, because it sounds like
something that should be relatively quick to diagnose and answer, for those
who are knowledgeable (quicker than getting through the midrange.com
subscription process, which I will still recommend to the asker anyway).

If possible, it would probably be most helpful to them if you answered
directly on Stack Overflow. I realize there is also value to answering here
for midrange archive purposes.
