For WRKHDWRSC *STG I am used to the virtual C numbers. For example C371 is the first nwsd served up by lpar 3 to lpar 7. C372 is the second nwsd served up by lpar 3 to lpar 7. It gets that from the way our BP suggested we set up our virtualization. And it makes pretty good sense to us.
Stuff like C6 I still have to figure that out. After further research I'm pretty sure it's not the vlan though.

No I can tell you for sure the C number is in fact the cardslot number on the virtual bus.

For example this is the 54th virtual scsi adaptor on one of my iHost LPARs which is partition 1 on that frame. The slot number is in fact
C115 as that matches to the profile.

Resource name . . . . . . . : CTL54
Text . . . . . . . . . . . . : Comm Adapter
Type-model . . . . . . . . . : 290B-001
Serial number . . . . . . . : 00-00000
Part number . . . . . . . . :

Location : U8202.E4D.1012345-V1-C115 <<<----

Virtual cardslot numbers go from 1 to 65535.

For physical cards the number after C is the card slot for the frame that card is installed into.

What cannot be divined from here is where the 'other end' is for example with an SEA through VIOS. It might go through VIO1 for a while and then
VIO2 at some other point and the card number on the VIO partition will certainly differ.

I'll stand corrected on the V part.
I'll have to do more research on the C part. Not so sure it's a virtual representation. Although it might just be a coincidence that C2 has the shared Ethernet card served up by VIOS lpar 1. But in your favor, should it be showing that when you're using shared Ethernet between two different cards served up by two different vios lpars?

Likely a 'typo' but V6 is the partition number not the VLAN. VLAN isn't visible here. FOr Pete that will be V1.

C2 is indeed the card slot and here is a virtual slot but on Pete's machine it will be a real hardware slot number as printed on the back fo the server.

T1 is the TOP port, used for LAN console.
T2 is next down to T4 on the bottom.

For desk side servers picture the thing with the 'Top' port being furthest away from the Planar board as if the planar board were laying flat.

On the WRKHDWRSC *CMN you should be able to use option 7 on each of
those CMN## ports. The last two characters will help you to
determine which port they are on the card. For example
U9009.42A.<redacted>-V6-C2-T1
I think you get the first two parts.
The third part is the S/N of our system unit. This lets us know it's our system unit and not our expansion unit(s).
V6 indicates Virtualized. 6 is vlan 6.
C2 indicates card slot 2.
T1 indicates port 1 on that card.

Thanks Rob.  Prying loose those infrequently used commands from the recesses of my brain takes work.  I think this was what I was looking for:

    CMB06           576F  Operational           Comm Processor
      LIN04         576F  Operational           LAN Adapter
        CMN03       576F  Operational           Ethernet Port
        CMN04       576F  Operational           Ethernet Port
        CMN05       576F  Operational           Ethernet Port
        CMN06       576F  Operational           Ethernet Port

I am guessing those Ethernet Ports are the 4 ports on the card. So,
just need to assign CMN04 to the ETHLINE and should be good to go.
Thanks

Subject: Network (Ethernet) resources on Power 9 9009-41A

Getting this bright shiny new Power 9 up on it's legs (aside: Installing from USB is AWESOME!)  Trying to remember how to identify which resource name to use for the Ethernet adapter. This guy has a card with 4 Ethernet ports on it and I am trying to figure out which external port maps to the internal resource names.  Using LAN Console, not HMC.

I think I go into SST and use the HSM to identify the logical
resources.  There is a virtual IOP (CMB04).  That has a Workstation
IOA
(CTL01) which has a display station attached (DSP001) which I assume is the Console.  There is also a Virtual Comm IOA on that virtual IOP which has a resource name of LIN03.

So, do I use LIN03 as the resource for the Ethernet Line I want to create or do I need to "create" a resource for the Ethernet line somehow?  I think the 4 external Ethernet ports might be derailing my thinking....

Just trying to create an Ethernet line to connect this P9 to the network (beyond the LAN console)....
