We are now using Python and pExpect to closely monitor sFTP file
transfers. We archive sent/received files as well as verbose log files.

That's a pretty good combination, especially given how commonly used Expect is.

Folks who are developing such processes themselves from scratch today
should be aware that the latest yum-based Python installations offer
another option: Paramiko. Personally, I like pysftp, which is a
wrapper around Paramiko. There's a lot of robustness built into its
simple "get" and "put" methods, which may reduce, or possibly even
eliminate, the need for explicit checking and renaming and so forth.

I strongly encourage anyone with SSH-related needs (including SFTP) to
check out Paramiko. Bear in mind Paramiko must be installed with yum
rather than pip, if you're working on the IBM i.
