Hi Doug
I do NOT know what the limitation is as far as the number of objects in an ifs directory
However, there is another limitation that you may also need to consider - and that is the total number of objects owned by any one particular user
And THAT includes the number of objects in the ifs
I do not know what that limitation is today - but approximately 5 years or so ago I had JUST read an article concerning such a situation, when lo and behold - one of our production systems started closing down REALLY quick
Because I had just read that article - I immediately recognized what the problem was - we had 1,000,000 objects (that's right - I Million - sorry - I cant do my Dr Evil impersonation within an e-mail) in one ifs directory
So we had to start deleting objects from within that directory - as quickly as possible
The number of these particular objects had been growing over the years
We now have a routine that deletes objects from within ifs directories that have aged
Depending on the ifs directory - that age can be different
The process is parameter driven

Subject: [EXTERNAL] IFS limits

Does anyone know where I can find the maximum number of objects that can be in an IFS folder? All I have seen on the internet is 32,767 objects in the IBM i Maximum capacities manual. We have one IFS folder with over 261,000 PDFs in it. I am wondering what the limit is so I can be proactive and avoid a problem. Does anyone know where I can find that information?

Thank you,

Doug
