I think modernizing is mandatory to stay in business, I use CGIDEV2, it
works great.

When moving to web you must change some things, like function key.
Replace with links.

The web allow much more data than 5250, as a matter of fact you can put
all you want, but it is not very comfortable to go beyond the width of
the screen.  You can display many lines, it is much better than the
"paging" on 5250.

Also it is a good idea to split big programs.

CGIDEV2 keeps the logic away from the presentation, so you need basic
html, and you can ask a designer to make it pretty.

In my experience, some users where opposed to the change, but after
trying the web they never went back to 5250,  Also for programming the
web is a lot better.

What's the business case for the modernization? Is it aesthetics/perception? Are you looking to extend the reach of your apps? Need to add functionality that's impractical for 5250?

What's the budget (in time, labor & cash)?

Subject: 5250 to Web Interface / Application Modernization

Looking for recommendations on products to help modernize an existing in-house application running on Power 8 with 5250 interface (RPG &
DDS) to web browser interface.

Existing screens are packed with information, and a lot of different function keys in use.
