Yes, Justin and Joe are right about that.

Which is funny.

You see, I have 2 Ubuntu machines which I set up and which I use daily, yet
I never noticed that root doesn't have a password!

And that is because I haven't tried login as root or use su - without a
prepended sudo in years :)
