In an earlier post I mentioned that this might be a good use for an Open Access Handler. Here it is in use. The O-specs lay out the data and can use edit codes etc. if needed. By default the IFS file is named according to the file name used plus data and time.

If anyone is interested in an early version of the code for the handler let me know and I'll post it.

Dcl-f IFSPrinter Printer(50) Handler('IFSWRTRECH');

Dcl-F CustMast Keyed;

Read CustMast;

DoU %Eof(CustMast);
Except IFSLine1;
Read CustMast;
EndDo;

*InLr = *On;

OIFSPrinterE IFSLine1
O Cust# 5
O Name 40
O Credit 50

Pretty easy to use and the same handler can process any "printer" file.

Discovered cpytoimpf alone is not enough to take a columned table and move to the ifs as a flat “fixed” file with column formatting I’m requiring.

Thanks to mark waterbury I’ll be creating a new command to do the following...

Dspfd to outfile to get record length

Create new qtemp flat file with that rcd length

Cpyf columned to qtemp flat

Then finally issue the cpytoimpf on the qtemp flat.

Thx for all the suggestions.

How about this:
CPYTOIMPF FROMFILE() TOSTMF() MBROPT() FROMCCSID() STMFCCSID(*PCASCII) RCDDLM(*CRLF) DTAFMT(*FIXED)
