Unless you already have plans to use PHP for other things, I think you
are much better off trying Python or Node.js. I say this only because
Python and Node.js are so much easier to install and get up and
running. It is so ridiculously easy and quick that even if you try
them and hate them, you can still investigate PHP without having lost
anything. But more likely, you will find Python or Node.js meets your
needs and then some.
