There's a small amount of setup required to use Certs for authentication;
pretty sure this will work with the DD as we have a couple of scripts here
top interact with our DD from another host (restarting the GUI is a popular
one)

Setting up the keys on the i to use SSH is pretty straightforward (after
you have done it a couple of times) Here are some links that might assist:
http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=nas8N1012710
http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=nas8N1019126

I particularly like the HMC one (second link) as it contains this little
gem to allow expanding the command line in QSH
"To obtain additional command input lines in the shell (needed for longer
keys), type the number of desired lines on the command line (for example
type 10) then press F14 (Shift+F2)."

Made life much easier.

Getting around SSH passwords is a common problem.

Here's the "correct" way to do it (using public/private key encryption):

Disclaimer: I haven't tried this, but I understand it's prety
straightforward.

I am using DD2500's fine with my Power systems, both AIX and IBM i. What
I
would like to do is to communicate with the device's command line using
languages on the IBM i to move tapes and stuff.

Simple sample is :
QSH
ssh -l rob@dekko-1 kdvl-dd2500.corp.dekko.com
- get prompted for password
help
- lists some commands.

Basically I do not want to get prompted for the password as I want to
script this session.

In addition to the commands an alternative is to use their REST apis but
that sounds trickier (at least to this uninitiated soul).
