Sounds like it is not as easy as using CDs,
I think I will dig some more and see if I can find them, they have to
be somewhere, I even have a storage box labeled 7.1 (empty)
And I know I had them at one point cause I have another box that was
updated from 6.1 to 7.1 a few years back
Thanks everyone for your ideas, thoughts and suggestions.
Have a Merry Christmas
John

You could get the first boot, but then when you go to load LIC with
option 2 (clears the system) everything is wiped out.
You ~can~ accomplish booting from an image catalog but that catalog
must be on another system. Larry and I do it all the time but there
is some set up and advanced stuff going on that while not hard, is new
to many folks.
Google "IBM i network install" and you'll find several redpapers and
other documentation on it.

Evan,
So you are saying you do not think I can download the 7.1 Optical
Images onto the 7.2 partition and then do a slip install from it
resulting in a partition with 7.1?

Hi John
To be clear, what I understand you want to do is load V7R1 media into
a
V7R2 LPAR and then run the upgrade (or whatever) process in such a way
that the system is reverted to V7R1.
As far as I am aware what you are asking is not possible. You can't
back level an Operating System to an older version once updated.
if you want a V7R1 LPAR you will need to build one from scratch and
restore the data to it somehow (I've never tried this)
I am wondering if you need V7R1 Extended support to be entitled to
download the media and patches now that it is out of support.

No need to ask why I need to do this, trust me I need to do this.
I have a Power 8 with 4 partitions.
All partitions are currently running 7.2
Currently in the process of updating one partition to 7.3
Want to update one partition back to 7.1 (not even sure if this is
called update? rollback? downgrade?)
At one point in the past I had CD's for 7.1 but can't find them now.
I am under SWMA so I can get 7.1 from IBM (download from IBM web
site,
can't find a way to order 7.1 CD's).
My question is: What is the easiest way for me to install 7.1 on one
of the partitions running 7.2?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions or advice
John
