So what Larry did not say was take a full system save first. Make real sure
to take the back up so it will restore to the previous release.

You'll lose a bunch of objects that will not restore to V7R1M0. Then do
as he instructed.

Next set up the system, with the IP, system name, etc. Basically, setting
up from scratch.

Now restore all the user libraries you need.

Be massively careful with QGPL and QUSRSYS. If you restore any system
objects from the V7R2 system to V7R1 and the file formats are different
you've just issued Barsa's MAKEAMESS command.

Happy restoring.

Subject: Re: Install (or rollback) to previous version of OS

You have no choice here but to boot an i 7.1 LIC optical media or tape.
Of course it needs to be sufficiently new to run on POWER8. If you download
from IBM it will be new enough. If you have a tape that contains SAVSYS from
your POWER8 you can use that.

You will get an error that says 'Cannot install LIC over the current LIC'.
(Option 2 in on the install menu) This is because your only choice is to
completely scratch the partition and install new i 7.1 LIC since the system
is currently at a higher level LIC. Once that's installed you will add
disks, and install the operating system.

No need to ask why I need to do this, trust me I need to do this.

I have a Power 8 with 4 partitions.

All partitions are currently running 7.2

Currently in the process of updating one partition to 7.3

Want to update one partition back to 7.1 (not even sure if this is
called update? rollback? downgrade?)

At one point in the past I had CD's for 7.1 but can't find them now.

I am under SWMA so I can get 7.1 from IBM (download from IBM web site,
can't find a way to order 7.1 CD's).

My question is: What is the easiest way for me to install 7.1 on one
of the partitions running 7.2?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions or advice

John
