No, it is a completely separate IP connection. Not associated with the HMC
software at all. It's hardware control.
Give it its own address.

Do I use the same static IP that I used for Eth1 or does need to be a 2nd
static IP?

Paul:
That's just a network connection and it's not Eth0, Eth1, ..... Those are
Linux (HMC) Ethernet ports. The HMC code does not really see the IMPI.
I highly suggest you give it a static address to avoid unpleasantness each
time the DHCP server decides to update the IP lease on that box. IE: What
the [Insert favorite strong explicative] is the IP address now!

I read that BMC must be configured, even if not using it.
6. For HMC model 7063-CR1, you must configure the baseboard management
controller (BMC) IP address.
How should BMC be configured for network connectivity?.
Should I used the same network settings as I use for ETH1, which is a static
IP?
Or do I configure it like ETH0,
To configure the BMC connection, complete the following steps:
1. In the navigation area, click the HMC Management icon, and then select
Console Settings.
2. In the content pane, click Change BMC/IPMI network settings.
3. Select the connection mode (DHCP or Static).
If you select Static mode, complete the following addresses:
* IP address
* Subnet mask
* Gateway
1. Click OK.
You can also configure the BMC network connection by using the Petitboot
bootloader interface. For more information, see Configuring the firmware IP
address<

Not required, true. Useful YES.
Look up "IPMI" under supermicro. This is what's running there.
Most x86 HMCs had IBM/Lenovo's equivalent to this however you had to add
a key to actually be able to use the system remotely with this. It also
was NOT recommended by IBM. They claimed somethihng about the BIOS could
change and so you shouldn't use or update the code etc. So most folks
didn't use it though some did and found it useful.
With IPMI you'll find a pretty full function management interface for
the HMC. You can power it up and down, update firmware, and importantly
access the boot screens remotely. You may want to look up IPMITOOL but
these use a new enough firmware that it will work in a modern browser.

The BMC is the baseboard management controller and provides the
management
and monitoring functions for the boot process and the OPAL hypervisor. It
fulfills many of the functions that the ASMI provided on the other Power
Systems servers.
So what does this all mean?
Is BMC required?
This didn't exist on the order HMCs, correct?
Thank You
