Good point, of course my comments don't apply to such shops.

Open source is not the true panacea that some think it is. There are times
it's a nightmare.


Open source is everywhere and always has been. Apache on IBM i and z is
open source. Methinks the
nightmare is mostly experiencedby shops that have been kept in dark and
fed you-know-what for years
who suddenly are brought out into the light and are blinded by it :)

Anyone who thinks "open source" is just another IBM initiative that will go
away, like DSOM, NET.DATA, DCE,
etc., to name some from the past (all of which were valid in their own
right and have descendant paradigms living to this day, btw)
is deluded. *Open source is here because the command economy can't match
the open community for creativity*
*and number of engaged developers.*

That doesn't help a guy trying to learn rm -rf, Jim, but I wanted to get it
off my chest :)
