Jerry--
A Save/22 is just the operating system, security data, device
configuration, and the IBM part of the IFS.
This is a relatively short backup. PURELY GUESSING, it shouldn't
take much more than 2 hours... YOUR MILEAGE MAY VARY A LOT!! Don't
forget-- this backups runs in restricted state; all users off of the
system, all subsystems shut down, only the system console active.
You can run a SAVSECDTA and SAVCFG as part of your daily backups. On
our Power/8 machine SAVCFG takes less than 10 minutes; SAVSECDTA
takes less than 15 minutes.
The SAV of IFS objects can vary-- depending on what applications
you've go on your system-- WebSphere and WebQuery both place stuff
in the IFS.
This doesn't save -any- user data!

On a V7R1 machine how long might it take to do a GO SAVE 22?
