The real question is can it be used as an alternate IPL device, and I think
that answer is no, so you must start the system from a DVD or remote NFS
mount. I almost always use the network installation method. Then once the
LIC is installed, and you can connect to the USB bus, then the RDX can be
used from there.

So, in a sense, they were both right.

Subject: Full System Restore from RDX?

I have received conflicting responses to this question and wonder if
there
is any definitive proof. I have a Power 8 server running 7.2. The only
backup device I have is an RDX drive, which works really well. It is
quick and painless and I can get RDX cartridges that will hold my entire
system. The system allows me to do an option 21 save (SAVSYS) to it, but
there are conflicting opinions about whether a full system restore can be
run from an option 21 save of the system. I have one expert who has told
me absolutely no and another equally expert who has told me yes.

Which is it?

Has anyone actually done it?

If not, I need to make some alternate plans for a full system recovery.
