I'm going to mention the Printer Output action menu option in the ACS (Access Client Solutions) emulator - you get a sortable-by-many-attributes table of your spooled files, and you can download or just view as PDF and print from that.

No remote OUTQs or extra communication devices needed - just the VPN you already have.

I know the OP was about using a home printer, and the assumption was, use a printer device on the IBM i - this suggestion is to climb out of that box and look at something else.

While this may seem complicated it really is not and most routers
have a gui interface for setting just this type of stuff up.

We have a few printers connected this way and they are generally
very reliable. Issues are generally with poor internet connections
and ending and restarting the printer will commonly get it printing
again.

Sorry missed the last question. Your router's port forwarding
config should ask for the port range to forward. Just do the 9100
to the printer.

Is your printer on your local network or attached to your PC? If
it's on the network, you could create a remote outq to point to
your public IP, then you would setup port forwarding on your
router to go to the ip address of your printer.

If it's attached to your PC, The VPN will provide you with an
internal IP Address, 192.x.x.x. For your printer to work, you
need to setup an ACS printer session, NOT a remote Outq.
