SAP is likely using unicode...

Bring it in as unicode on the i, store it as unicode in the DB, process the
data in your app as unicode, and use an emulator (ACS) that can display
unicode...

And it will look fine on the i too.

Otherwise, it's going to be wrong.

basically see a green box where the x'31' and x'09' are.

Changing to a web interface would not be on the table. The admins for the
app are just wondering why if it displays OK in the Unix app (SAP I think)
why it doesn't display OK on the i system.

The "extra character" makes me think they are double byte characters.
Does 5250 even display double byte characters?
What happens if you replace it with a web interface?

We get a file via FTP from a Unix system that has Spanish characters
(specifically the 'n' and 'a' characters with a tilde on top). When they
get to our system they tend to get an extra non-displayable character
added after some of the Spanish characters.

For example,
COMPAÃ^Ã^A
(where ^ becomes a non-displayable character)

The two 'A's (with the tilde) seem to be correct but a x'31' or x'09' gets
added after the characters with the tilde.

Without changing the CCSID is there something I should be doing to keep
the characters as the user sees them on the Unix System? The FTP does a
basic MGET without any special options.
