With BLOB's, my table is a self-contained unit for backup/restore, test environments, etc. The alternative would be for the table to contain the IFS path to the PDF. I'd have to handle relatives paths for test environment and backup/restore would be more complicated.

For BLOB's, I use a SQL query to extract them to a temp IFS file.

Would you mind elaborating on what you mean by "convenience"?

If you store PDF files (or any other types of documents) in the IFS, then browsers can simply access it via URL, which automatically invokes an Adobe reader or browser extension to display it. What could be more convenient?

What sort of interface do you require in order to enable a blob to be read by a reader?
