Rob,

If using conventional methods (DSPMSG QSYSOPR, DSPLOG QHST, DSPJOBLOG) to view messages, the message file library and message file are NOT included.
If using any of the system catalogs you supplied below to view messages, the message file library and message file ARE included.

Then, by golly, I would call IBM and open a pmr that says when you search
QHST using
https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/community/wikis/home?lang=en#!/wiki/IBM%20i%20Technology%20Updates/page/QSYS2.HISTORY_LOG_INFO%20UDTF
the columns MESSAGE_LIBRARY and MESSAGE_FILE are not being returned.

Same thing when searching joblogs using
https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/community/wikis/home?lang=en#!/wiki/IBM%20i%20Technology%20Updates/page/QSYS2.JOBLOG_INFO()%20UDTF

And, when searching message queues like QSYSOPR, the columns
MESSAGE_LIBRARY_NAME and MESSAGE_FILE_NAME of
https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/community/wikis/home?lang=en#!/wiki/IBM%20i%20Technology%20Updates/page/QSYS2.MESSAGE_QUEUE_INFO%20View

However if you are not searching joblogs, but instead are just searching
spool file dumps of joblogs (like QPJOBLOG), then you're screwed. Dump
the stone knives and bearskins and change your job log output to "pending"
instead of spool file output.
