..and they are at that 3+ years old - not APC, this is a much bigger unit
outside the racks.
Expecting the 3-4 hr outage early Sunday.

Generally AC is not on UPS. First it's not a UPS friendly load plus they
generally have very high start current and can trip the UPS.

So assuming it is not that would add the 'heat in the room' challenge as
well.

After that there is the 'age of the batteries' question. If they are 3 or
more years old some UPSs (especially APC) will have cooked the life out of
them as well. So what you think is substantial might be must minutes under
load.

Powering off IS the right thing to do!!

There are half dozen win servers, and a possibility the in room air
conditioning is on it...). No one is around who did the original specs

Just to be certain you will use PWRDWNSYS to power down the partitions
right? Just doing so via the HMC 5250 Console.

Depending on how long they sit in restricted state first pwrdwnsys can
still take some time so watch the hMC for SRC codes until the
partitions show they are down.

Once all down then power off the server via the HMC. Finally the HMC.
