During a manual IPL does the system console remain available once IBM i is up and running or do you lose the console just before IBM i is up and running?

If the answer is 'lose it' I suspect you may be using the same physical port on the Ethernet card for both the console and the O/S. This is not a good idea. The console connection uses port T1 (Top port) while the O/S may use any other port.

In IBM i if you STRSST and take option 8 then press F13 look for the CMN number with a '*' next to it then compare that number to the communications resource used for the Ethernet Line description within IBM i. They cannot be the same.

Good Day All,
Should it be pretty easy to get a Lan Console going on a system ( Power 8 7.3 ) with ACS, that is up and running after a Normal IPL?
I can get a console if I do a manual IPL, and connect during the window that they allow and keep that session going. But after the system is running from a Normal IPL, request for console go unconnected.
There is DSP01, listed in system values as the official console. Listed as 'Powered off or not yet available' when viewed with WRKDEVD. When I choose option 'Make Available', the msg says DSP01 Already Available, while still saying 'Powered Off or not yet available' in the status col.
There is QCONSOLE , 'cannot be made available'.
Surely just missing the right documentation.
